| Months | Season | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| April/May – June | Opening season | The temples open around late April or May; pleasant days and heavy demand. |
| July – August | Monsoon | Heavy rain and landslides can close roads; travel only with flexible plans. |
| September – October | Post-monsoon | Clear skies and fewer pilgrims — a good time for the yatra. |
| November – March | Closed | The shrines close for winter, usually around Diwali, and reopen in spring. |
The cost of a Char Dham Yatra depends on the number of days, starting city, hotel category and whether you add helicopter tickets or ponies. We quote each yatra for your dates.
Reached by a trek of about 6 km from Janki Chatti/Phool Chatti, on foot, by horse or by doli at your own cost.
Reached by road; about 100 km each way from Uttarkashi (3–4 hours).
Drive to Sonprayag, take a local jeep to Gaurikund, then trek about 19–20 km — or take a pony or helicopter.
Reached by road, about 160 km (7 hours) from Guptkashi; visit Mana village nearby.
Start or end the yatra with the Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri.
Our Char Dham packages use standard / 3-star equivalent or deluxe hotels as listed on each package, with breakfast (dinner where listed). Hotels near the shrines are simpler than in the towns.
Road packages include transfers for the yatra as specified, with pick-up and drop at Haridwar, Dehradun or Delhi; many use a private cab. Kedarnath is reached by trek, pony, palki or helicopter; helicopter tickets are not included in road packages.
Families of all ages do the yatra; plan ponies or palki for elders and children at Yamunotri and Kedarnath.
Choose a longer itinerary or the helicopter package, and consult a doctor before travelling to high altitude.
Private cabs or larger vehicles can be arranged for group pilgrimages.
