This is a suggested day-by-day plan. Timings, the order of sightseeing and hotels are confirmed with your quote.

Indian visitors need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Arunachal Pradesh, applied for online before travel (fees as per the rules); foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit. Mountain roads can close for landslides or snow, and travel times are approximate. Entry fees and local guides are paid locally. Bum La needs a separate army permit, issued in Tawang the day before; it is not guaranteed and the pass closes in bad weather.

  1. Day 1 — Guwahati to Dirang

You are met at Guwahati airport or station for the long first day: north across the plains to the Arunachal border at Bhalukpong, where your Inner Line Permit is checked, then up the Kameng valley past Tenga to Dirang (about 300 km, 9–10 hours). Overnight stay in Dirang.

    Overnight: Dirang

  2. Day 2 — Dirang

A rest day for the altitude: the Dirang dzong, the hot springs and the Sangti valley. Overnight stay in Dirang.

    Overnight: Dirang

  3. Day 3 — Dirang to Tawang

The road climbs steadily to the Sela pass, often snowbound in winter, with its frozen or deep-blue lake beside a prayer-flag gate. Pay respects at Jaswant Garh, the memorial to a rifleman of the 1962 war, and descend into the Tawang valley (about 140 km). Overnight stay in Tawang.

    Overnight: Tawang

  4. Day 4 — Tawang monastery

A day in Tawang town: the Galden Namgyal Lhatse monastery, home to several hundred monks and a two-storey golden Buddha, the hilltop war memorial with the names of the soldiers of 1962, and the small Urgelling gompa where the 6th Dalai Lama was born. Overnight stay in Tawang.

    Overnight: Tawang

  5. Day 5 — Bum La pass and Madhuri lake

With the special army permit arranged through the Tawang district office, drive to Bum La pass (about 4,600 m) on the India–China border, and on the way back stop at Madhuri (Sangetsar) lake (shared local vehicle paid locally; the road is open only on some days and in good weather). Overnight stay in Tawang.

    Overnight: Tawang

  6. Day 6 — Tawang to Bomdila

Leave Tawang after breakfast and recross the Sela pass, stopping at the roaring Jang (Nuranang) waterfall, before the long descent to Bomdila (about 180 km). The upper Gompa there looks out over the Kameng hills. Overnight stay in Bomdila.

    Overnight: Bomdila

  7. Day 7 — Bomdila to Guwahati

After breakfast, drive to Guwahati (about 280 km). Overnight stay in Guwahati.

    Overnight: Guwahati

  8. Day 8 — Departure from Guwahati

After breakfast, there is time for the Assam State Museum or a little shopping for Assam silk and tea before the transfer to Guwahati airport or station. The tour ends here.
