In short: Tawang with Dirang and Bomdila is a 6-night, 7-day tour that also covers Guwahati and Sela Pass. It starts in Guwahati and ends in Guwahati. It includes daily breakfast. The itinerary can be customised.

Indian visitors need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Arunachal Pradesh, applied for online before travel (fees as per the rules); foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit. Mountain roads can close for landslides or snow, and travel times are approximate. Entry fees and local guides are paid locally.
Arrive at Guwahati airport or railway station, where our representative meets you. Drive north across the Brahmaputra plain to Bhalukpong on the Arunachal border, where permits are checked, then climb through Tenga to Dirang (about 300 km, 9–10 hours). Overnight stay in Dirang.

After breakfast, drive over the Sela pass (about 4,170 m), with its high lake, to the Jaswant Garh war memorial and down to Tawang (about 140 km, 6 hours). Overnight stay in Tawang.

After breakfast, visit the Tawang monastery, the largest in India, founded in the 17th century, with its library and giant Buddha statue, the Tawang war memorial, and the Urgelling monastery, birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Overnight stay in Tawang.

A free day in Tawang for the craft centre and markets; or, with the special army permit, an optional trip to Bum La pass and Madhuri lake in a shared local vehicle (paid locally). Overnight stay in Tawang.

After breakfast, drive back over the Sela pass, with a stop at the Nuranang (Jang) falls, to Bomdila (about 180 km). Evening at the Bomdila monastery. Overnight stay in Bomdila.

After breakfast, drive to Guwahati (about 280 km, 8 hours). Overnight stay in Guwahati.

After breakfast, there is time for the Assam State Museum or a little shopping for Assam silk and tea before the transfer to Guwahati airport or station. The tour ends here.

Best time: October to April is the best time to visit Arunachal and Nagaland; the Hornbill Festival in Kohima is held from 1 to 10 December.
