An Inner Line Permit is required for Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and Turtuk; permit fees are paid as per the rules. The Srinagar–Leh and Manali–Leh roads are open only in summer (usually June to September), depending on snow.

Day 1 — Arrive Srinagar – start of the circuit
Arrive at Srinagar airport and transfer to your hotel. This twelve-day circuit begins at about 1,600 m in Srinagar and climbs gradually to Ladakh, which helps acclimatisation. In the afternoon, visit the Nishat and Shalimar gardens by Dal Lake. Overnight stay in Srinagar.

Day 2 — Srinagar to Kargil via Zoji La
After breakfast, set off for Kargil (about 200 km) by way of Sonmarg, the Zoji La pass and Drass, with a stop at the Kargil War Memorial. Overnight stay in Kargil.

Day 3 — Kargil to Leh
After breakfast, drive to Leh over the Namik La and Fotu La, stopping at Mulbekh's rock-carved Maitreya and Lamayuru monastery. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 4 — Leh sightseeing
A day around Leh town: Leh Palace and the Namgyal Tsemo monastery above the old town, the Shanti Stupa and the Leh market for Tibetan handicrafts. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 5 — Leh to Nubra via Khardung La
After breakfast, drive to Nubra valley (about 120 km, 5 hours) over the Khardung La pass, one of the highest motorable roads. In Nubra, visit the Diskit monastery with its large Maitreya Buddha and the Hunder sand dunes, where double-humped Bactrian camel rides are available (paid locally). Overnight stay in Nubra.

Day 6 — Nubra to Pangong lake
After breakfast, drive from Nubra to Pangong lake (about 160 km, 6 hours) along the Shyok river. The lake, about 4,250 m high, changes colour from blue to green through the day. Overnight stay at Pangong.

Day 7 — Pangong to Leh
Watch the morning light on Pangong lake, then drive back to Leh (about 160 km, 5–6 hours) over the Chang La pass, stopping at Thiksey monastery on the way if time allows. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 8 — Monasteries of the Indus valley
After breakfast, visit the monasteries east of Leh: Shey palace, Thiksey monastery, often compared to the Potala Palace, and Hemis, the largest monastery in Ladakh. Evening in the Leh market. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 9 — Leh to Jispa
An early start for the long drive south (about 330 km) over the Tanglang La, across the More plains and over the Baralacha La to Jispa in Lahaul. Overnight stay in Jispa.

Day 10 — Jispa to Manali via Atal Tunnel
After breakfast, drive along the Bhaga and Chandra rivers and through the Atal Tunnel to Manali (about 140 km). Evening on the Mall Road. Overnight stay in Manali.

After breakfast, visit the Hadimba temple, Vashisht hot springs and the old Manali village, and spend the afternoon at Solang valley (activities paid locally). Overnight stay in Manali.
