An Inner Line Permit and a medical certificate are compulsory (issued at Dharchula; Indian citizens only). The route is open from about May to October. Stays at Gunji are simple homestays. High altitude: consult your doctor before travel.

Day 1 — Kathgodam to Pithoragarh
Arrive at Kathgodam station, where our representative meets you, and drive through Almora to Pithoragarh (about 210 km), the "little Kashmir" of Kumaon. Overnight stay in Pithoragarh.

Day 2 — Pithoragarh to Dharchula
Drive along the Kali river, the border with Nepal, to Dharchula (about 95 km). Complete the Inner Line Permit and medical formalities at the SDM office. Overnight stay in Dharchula.

Day 3 — Dharchula to Gunji
Drive up the Vyas valley past Budhi and the Chhiyalekh pass to Gunji (about 80 km), a Rung village at about 3,200 metres. Overnight stay in Gunji (simple homestays).

Day 4 — Acclimatisation at Gunji
A rest day to get used to the altitude: an easy walk through Gunji and the neighbouring village of Napalchu, with their carved wooden houses, and a drive to the Kali temple at Kalapani, the source of the Kali river. Overnight stay in Gunji.

Day 5 — Om Parvat
Drive to Nabhidang (about 25 km) to see Om Parvat, where the snow on the rock face forms the sacred "Om", and return to Gunji. Overnight stay in Gunji.

Day 6 — Adi Kailash and Parvati Kund
Drive to Jolingkong (about 35 km) for the view of Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash) and its reflection in Parvati Kund, with the Gauri Kund and Shiva-Parvati temple; return via Kuti village. Overnight stay in Gunji.

Day 7 — Gunji to Dharchula
After breakfast, drive back down the Vyas valley past Budhi and the waterfalls of the Kali gorge to Dharchula, where the road runs beside the river opposite Nepal. Overnight stay in Dharchula.

Day 8 — Dharchula to Pithoragarh
Drive back to Pithoragarh along the Kali river, then visit the Kapileshwar Mahadev cave temple and the old Pithoragarh fort for the view over the Soar valley. Overnight stay in Pithoragarh.

Day 9 — Pithoragarh to Kathgodam
After breakfast, drive through Almora, with a stop at the Chitai Golu Devta temple of hanging bells, to Kathgodam (about 210 km) for your onward train. The tour ends here.
