The way down into the Patal Bhuvaneshwar cave is narrow, steep and damp, and not suitable for those with knee or breathing problems. Hill roads are slow.

Day 1 — Kathgodam to Almora
Arrive at Kathgodam station, where our representative meets you, and drive up via Bhowali and the Kainchi Dham ashram to Almora (about 90 km), the old Chand capital on its ridge. Evening in the Lala Bazaar with its carved wooden shopfronts. Overnight stay in Almora.

Day 2 — Almora to Pithoragarh
Drive east via the Chitai Golu Devta temple, hung with thousands of bells, and Lohaghat to Pithoragarh (about 120 km), a valley town called "little Kashmir". Visit the Pithoragarh fort and the Kapileshwar Mahadev cave temple. Overnight stay in Pithoragarh.

Day 3 — Pithoragarh to Chaukori
Drive to Chaukori (about 110 km) via Thal, a ridge of tea gardens and orchards facing the Panchachuli, Nanda Devi and Trishul peaks; evening watching the light on the snows. Overnight stay in Chaukori.

Day 4 — Patal Bhuvaneshwar
Drive to Patal Bhuvaneshwar (about 40 km) and climb down into the limestone cave temple, where narrow passages lead to stone forms identified with Shiva, Ganesha and the gods, guided by the temple priests (offerings paid locally). Overnight stay in Chaukori.

Day 5 — Chaukori to Kathgodam
After breakfast, drive back to Kathgodam (about 180 km, 7 hours) for your onward train. The tour ends here.
