Visit the Mahabodhi temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment and the Vajrasana diamond throne, then the monasteries built by Thailand, Japan, Bhutan and Tibet and the 25-metre Great Buddha statue. Overnight stay in Bodh Gaya.

Drive to Rajgir (about 80 km), the old Magadha capital in a ring of hills. Take the ropeway up Ratnagiri to the Vishwa Shanti Stupa (paid locally) and walk to Griddhakuta, the Vulture's Peak, where the Buddha preached; then the Venuvana bamboo grove and the hot springs at Brahmakund. Overnight stay in Rajgir.

Visit the ruins of Nalanda Mahavihara, the ancient university and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its museum and the Xuanzang memorial (about 15 km), then the Jal Mandir at Pawapuri and on to Patna (about 90 km). Overnight stay in Patna.

After breakfast, the Bihar Museum (closed Mondays) or the Golghar granary, then the transfer to Patna airport or station. The tour ends here.
