1. 1

   Day 1 — Arrival in Srinagar

   Arrive at Srinagar airport, where our driver meets you and transfers you to your houseboat on Dal Lake or Nigeen Lake. After check-in, the rest of the day is free to settle in and enjoy the calm of the lake. In the late afternoon you can take an optional shikara ride to watch the floating vegetable gardens, lakeside homes and the Zabarwan hills reflected in the water. Dinner and overnight stay on the houseboat.

2. 2

   Day 2 — Srinagar sightseeing

   After breakfast, set out on a half-day tour of Srinagar's Mughal gardens: Nishat Bagh, the "garden of pleasure", Shalimar Bagh, laid out by Emperor Jahangir, and the terraced Chashme Shahi spring garden. Depending on time, you can also visit the Hazratbal shrine on the banks of Dal Lake. The rest of the afternoon is free for the local markets, known for pashmina, papier-mâché and dry fruits. Return to Srinagar for dinner and the overnight stay.

   Day 3 — Srinagar to Gulmarg

   After breakfast, check out and drive to Gulmarg (about 56 km, 2 hours), a meadow resort ringed by snow-capped peaks. After checking in, enjoy the open meadows on foot or by pony. You can ride the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, for close views of the Himalaya; Gondola tickets and pony rides are paid locally. In winter Gulmarg is covered in snow and popular for skiing. Overnight stay in Gulmarg.

4. 4

   Day 4 — Gulmarg to Pahalgam

   After breakfast, check out and drive to Pahalgam (about 150 km, 4–5 hours) in the Lidder valley. En route you pass saffron fields near Pampore and can stop at the ruins of the Avantipur temples. Pahalgam sits where the Lidder river meets pine forests and green slopes. After checking in, spend the evening walking along the river or in the small local market. Overnight stay in Pahalgam.

5. 5

   Day 5 — Pahalgam sightseeing

   A full day to explore Pahalgam and its valleys. Popular excursions include Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari, the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra; these are reached by local union vehicles, paid directly. You can also take a gentle pony ride to Baisaran meadow, often called "mini Switzerland". Alternatively, relax by the Lidder river and enjoy the quiet of the valley. Return to your hotel in the evening for dinner and the overnight stay in Pahalgam.

6. 6

   Day 6 — Pahalgam to Srinagar

   After breakfast, check out and drive back to Srinagar (about 95 km, 3 hours). After checking in at your hotel or houseboat, the afternoon is free. You can visit the old city and the Jamia Masjid, shop for Kashmiri handicrafts at the government emporium, or take a sunset shikara ride on Dal Lake if you did not do so on the first day. This is a relaxed last evening in the valley. Overnight stay in Srinagar.

7. 7

   Day 7 — Departure from Srinagar

   After breakfast, check out at leisure. Depending on your flight time, you may have a little time for last-minute shopping for saffron, walnuts or shawls. Our driver then transfers you to Srinagar airport for your onward journey, taking home memories of the lakes, gardens and meadows of Kashmir. The tour ends here.
