Mysore with Ooty, Coorg or Wayanad: which to choose
Mysore is the natural first stop from Bangalore. Where you go next depends on the kind of hills you want.
Mysore
Mysore's palace is the centrepiece, lit up on Sunday evenings and festival nights. Chamundi Hill, St Philomena's church and the Brindavan Gardens fill a day. All our South India tours include a Mysore day.
Ooty and Coonoor
Ooty is the classic Nilgiri hill station: the lake, the botanical garden, Doddabetta peak and tea gardens. Coonoor is quieter. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train is a highlight; tickets are limited, so book early.
Coorg
Coorg (Kodagu) is coffee and spice country with misty hills, Abbey Falls, Raja's Seat and the Tibetan settlement at Bylakuppe on the way. It suits couples and travellers who want a homestay-style break.
Wayanad and Kodaikanal
Wayanad is green and forested, with waterfalls and caves. Kodaikanal, further south, is a lake town like Ooty but with a quieter feel. Our Mysore Ooty Kodaikanal tour links both hill stations in 5 nights.
Choosing
- Families, first visit: Mysore and Ooty.
- Couples, coffee and quiet: Mysore and Coorg.
- Nature and waterfalls: Mysore and Wayanad.
- Two hill stations: Ooty and Kodaikanal.
