Manali by overnight Volvo from Delhi: what to expect
The overnight Volvo is the most popular budget way to reach Manali from Delhi. A little preparation makes it far more comfortable.
How it works
Buses leave Delhi in the evening and reach Manali the next morning, after roughly 12–14 hours depending on traffic and weather. In our Volvo packages, day 1 is the Delhi departure and day 2 starts with arrival and hotel check-in in Manali.
Sleeping on the bus
Choose a seat towards the middle of the bus for a smoother ride. Carry a neck pillow, a light blanket or shawl (the air-conditioning can be cold) and an eye mask. Motion-sickness tablets help on the hill section after Mandi.
What to carry in your day bag
- Water and light snacks.
- Warm layer for the early-morning arrival.
- Phone charger or power bank.
- Any medicines you need during the night.
Keep large luggage in the bus hold and valuables with you.
Arrival day
You arrive tired, so we keep the first day light: check in, rest, and local sightseeing in the afternoon. The next days cover Solang Valley and Kullu or Naggar.
Is the Volvo right for you?
It suits couples, friends and budget travellers. Families with small children or senior citizens often prefer a private car or a flight to Bhuntar (Kullu) with a transfer, which we can arrange instead.
