North Goa or South Goa: where to stay
Goa is small, but the north and south feel like different holidays. Where you stay shapes your trip.
North Goa: lively
Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator have the beach shacks, markets, water sports and nightlife. Fort Aguada and Chapora Fort are nearby. It suits friends and travellers who like a busy, social atmosphere.
South Goa: calm
Colva, Benaulim, Palolem and Agonda are quieter, with wide, cleaner beaches and resorts. It suits couples, families and anyone who wants to relax.
Old Goa and Panaji
Old Goa's churches, including the Basilica of Bom Jesus, are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Panaji's Fontainhas Latin quarter is lovely for a walk. Our Goa tours include a North Goa day and a South Goa day so you see both sides.
Dudhsagar Falls
Dudhsagar, on the Goa–Karnataka border, is reached by jeep safari through the forest. It is at its most dramatic after the monsoon, and access depends on the season and forest-department rules.
When to go
November to February is peak season: dry, sunny and busy. March to May is hot. The monsoon (June to September) is green and quiet, but the sea is rough and many beach shacks close.
