Amarnath Yatra by helicopter: how it works
The helicopter option makes the Amarnath Yatra possible in two or three days, but it still needs planning and some walking.
The route
Helicopters fly from the Neelgrath helipad near Baltal to Panchtarni. From Panchtarni, the holy cave is reached on foot, by pony or by palki, a stretch of around 6 km. You return the same way the same day.
A typical plan
- Srinagar to Sonamarg (3–4 hours); overnight in Sonamarg.
- Early drive to Neelgrath; helicopter to Panchtarni; darshan; return to Sonamarg or Srinagar.
- Departure, or Srinagar sightseeing in our 3-night version.
Timing and weather
Helicopters fly in daylight and only in good weather. Delays and cancellations are common when clouds come in, so keep your return flight from Srinagar flexible and allow a buffer day.
Booking and registration
Helicopter tickets are sold through the official channel announced for the yatra, and you still need yatra registration and the Compulsory Health Certificate. Helicopter tickets are not included in our package price unless stated; we help you book them.
